I’m Becca and I am the biggest art nerd. I’m the kind of art nerd that wears Botticelli socks, Kandinsky skirts, and 18th-century chair enamel pins. I also happen to be on the committee for this project. But I’ve got a big secret...

Happy 190th birthday to the City of Wilmington!
The Delaware Historical Society is a designated trail site on the newly relaunched Delaware History Trail which spotlights 30 culturally significant locations throughout the state. As part of the relaunch, @johncarneyde toured the Jane and Littleton Mitchell Center for African American Heritage on May 2. His visit coincided with National Travel and Tourism Week.

Looking for some inspiration this Mother’s Day? Colorful accessories, it seems, never go out of style. This clutch purse and pillow cover give a fun glimpse into some of the gift options available to active-duty servicemen during World War II. The purse was a gift from Wilmingtonian Anthony Joseph Sosnowik to his mother Tessie in 1946. Anthony served in the Air Corps as a cryptographer and watch tower operator. The pillow cover was a gift from John A. Robinson of Wilmington to his mother Myra A. Diesen Robinson. John served in the Navy and fought in the Battle of Normandy in 1944.
Miss Nagano: The Japanese Friendship Doll - Meet Miss Nagano, the exquisitely crafted Japanese friendship doll with eyes of glass and skin of oyster shells. Dolls are an essential part of Japanese culture an ancient craft that dates back thousands of years. The Friendship Doll project was initiated in 1927 as an effort to improve relations between America and Japan. American and Japanese children exchanged dolls, like Miss Nagano, in honor of the annual Hinamatsuri (doll) Festival. Nine dolls visited Delaware in 1928 for a three-day stop at the Wilmington Public Library. Delaware Historical Society acquired Miss Nagano in 1928 from Emalea Pusey Warner (1853-1948), a prominent social reformer and leader in the Women's Movement in Delaware. For more information about Miss Nagano visit dehistory.org.
